Networking gets a bad rap. Slick salesy folks have sullied it a bit with their ‘force a business card upon you’ approach. And also, let’s be honest here, walking into a room full of strangers and introducing yourself doesn’t feel like the most natural thing in the world to do. 

Networking isn’t about sales; that’s a short lens approach to it. Coercing someone into buying something will only work the one time. And they’re highly unlikely to speak of you in glowing terms afterwards. 

Sure, there’s a little bit of awkwardness initially, but understand that’s present for everyone. People who network understand that they are there to have new conversations with interesting people, and so are welcoming of your approach and introduction.
